One Focus Campaign

Every patient who walks through our doors deserves the best of us. They deserve our undivided attention. They deserve to be consoled when they’re frightened. They deserve timely education on how to care for themselves in their new reality. They deserve care that gives them back their lives.

We’re doing all of that and more here at St. Michael’s. People from across the country travel here to the Transplant and Kidney Care Centre because our sole focus is kidneys. Our team of nephrologists, surgeons, social workers, pharmacists and scientists are dedicated to a single field of research and practice. No hearts, lungs or livers. Just kidneys.

But we’re bursting at the seams in a dated space in desperate need of modernizing. Our patients and our staff need a facility that serves people now and prepares us for the future.

With your help our One Focus campaign will raise $7 million to enhance and expand our Transplant and Kidney Care Centre and support world-leading research.

The new centre on our eighth floor of 61 Queen Street East will allow us to holistically manage the care of patients with advanced kidney disease.

And for the first time, your physicians and our top scientists will be able to work side-by-side in a research space designed to inspire and fast track innovation as we work to slow or even reverse early-stage kidney disease.

• SCAR WARS: A WORLD CENTRE FOR FIBROSIS RESEARCH

  A multi-disciplinary team of clinician-scientists are taking discoveries from the lab to the clinic in their search for the Holy Grail: treatment that can stop or even reverse the scarring that leads to kidney disease. Promising drugs are ready for the next stage of development and all they need is funding.

• A NEW PROCEDURE ROOM

  A new procedure room allows for life-saving treatments on the spot. This room would support anti-rejection therapy and intravenous fluid therapy for those in urgent need.

• A NEW CONFERENCE ROOM

  This new space will serve as the headquarters for the entire team to meet and review cases. Your health care professionals need a space that makes collaboration easier, faster and more frequent.

• 10 NEW EXAM ROOMS

  The new clinic will have modern exam rooms that accommodate people with mobility issues and offer our patients a private, functional space.

• 2 NEW CONSULTING ROOMS

  Kidney patients have a lifetime of new skills to learn in order to manage their disease. The more rooms we have, the better our multi-disciplinary team of physicians, nurses, educators, social workers and pharmacists can deliver personalized education to help patients control their blood sugar, monitor their blood pressure and optimize medication combinations.

• NEW RESEARCH SPACE

  Now, scientists and clinicians can finally work side-by-side to tackle the intractable problems of kidney disease. Our team requires a dedicated space to bring ideas together and fast-track innovation.
